Technology for Kindergarten-Second Grade

Classworks-The computer software program is designed for Kindergarten through Fifth grade. It covers skills in the areas of math, reading, phonics, grammar, and writing. Each skill starts off with a mini-lesson. It then moves on to practice that is a highly interactive learning game. Each skill has a quiz after the student finishes the practice. The student receives immediate feedback and the activities are self-paced.

Accelerated Reader-This program is commonly referred to as simply A.R. The student chooses a book at his/her level from the school or classroom library. After reading the book sufficiently, they access a test on the computer. They take the test which quizzes them on general comprehension and recall. The students receive immediate feedback upon completion of the book. Feedback is in the form of a percentage grade given to them by the computer.

Accelerated Math-This program was designed for third grade through Calculus. Our school has purchased the math sets appropriate for the elementary level. This program is pencil and paper practice generated by the computer program. The teacher maintains the computer program. The computer program allows students to work on skills selected by the teacher. The student receives practice on a given skill. After the student finishes the practice they transpose their answers onto a scan card. They scan their answers and the computer prints out a TOPS report with their grade.

Microsoft Word-This is a word processing processing program in most first grade classrooms. In the second grade, students type and edit stories on a regular basis.

Assessment Software:STAR Math, STAR Reading, Early Literacy This software is used by the teachers to assess students levels in both reading and math to better individualize student instruction.

* A variety of computer skills are also taught in the technology lab during the students' computer time.
